Coating for concrete tanks designed for the containment of liquid substances that are not particularly aggressive.

Anti-corrosion protection system for concrete tanks used for the direct or secondary containment of liquid substances.

In direct containment, the liquids are in direct contact with the tank surface, whereas in secondary containment, the liquids are stored in dedicated containers from which they may overflow into the tank.

The system is based on coloured, high-solids epoxy resins.

Surface preparation of the tank floor and walls must pay particular attention to the presence of moisture, to existing joints, and to the wall-to-floor connection.

Preparation of the substrate and project analysis

The surface to be treated must be solid, with a residual moisture content below 3%, and free from oil-based substances or chemical contaminants.
Evaluate the most suitable preparation method: sandblasting, hydro-sandblasting, high-pressure washing, or other mechanical preparation.

Verification of substrate soundness

Remove any loose or weak parts and restore the surface using PAVIRAPID or SIVITCOL.

Expansion joints

If expansion joints or structural cracks are present, they must be filled with the elastic epoxy formulation FLUIDEPOX FLEX, reinforced with fiberglass mesh, with a consumption of 0.100–0.200 kg/linear meter.

Moisture and substrate irregularities

If moisture is present in the substrate or beneath the flooring, the surface must be coated with ECOFONDO PLUS, a three-component primer acting as a vapour barrier.
The product should be applied in 1 or 2 coats for a total consumption of 1.2 kg/m². The ECOFONDO PLUS coats also help eliminate minor surface defects such as pitting and small cavities.

Wall–floor connection

To facilitate the application of the coating, a coving detail must be created using PAVIRAPID SGUSCI. If this area includes a joint, proceed as described above.

Application

  1. Only for very porous or dusty substrates, apply one coat of PAVIWATER T68, diluted 1:3, at a consumption of 0.05 kg/m².
  2. Apply three coats of PAVIPLAST VASCHE TIX by roller, for a total consumption of 0.70–0.80 kg/m².

The resulting coating thickness is approximately 0.5 mm.

Notes

The coating must be continuous and particular attention must be paid to ensuring perfect adhesion to the substrate. For contact with various chemical reagents, consult the chemical resistance data sheet.
