SIVIT joined the European DERRIS Project, under which the City of Turin, which was chosen as a pilot for this trial, launched the initiative “Torino is protecting.” The project is co-financed by the European Commission under the Life program. The project leader is Unipol Gruppo Finanziario which can be matched partners City of Turin, ANCI Nationale, Coordinamento Agende 21 Locali, UnipolSai, CINEAS.
The Turin pilot Companies that have joined the project are 32.
DERRIS is the first European project that combines public administration, businesses and the insurance industry to reduce the risks caused by extraordinary weather events (floods, storms, hail, tornadoes, heat waves and cold) that cause enormous damage every year businesses. These events are becoming more frequent and intense, and are set to increase due to climate changes underway.
SMEs generally do not have the risk assessment tools, appropriate prevention procedures and emergency management. To direct damages, such as broken equipment as a result of flooding or loss of goods, add up the interruption of production and other indirect damages that may have even more serious consequences for the company.
At the end of Derris path we will be developed new tools that will enable SMEs to assess their level of exposure and vulnerability to weather and climate risk, and appropriate measures to reduce it. In particular, it will improve and we will test a computer tool for self-assessment of risks and the identification of improvement actions to be undertaken.
The experiment started in Turin will be extended later to several other cities and well developed tools will be disseminated at national and European level; in particular, it is working on an “assessment tool and risk management” (CRAM Tool), an “Adaptation Action Plan of the Company” (CAAP) and an “Integrated Plan of the District Adaptation” (IDAP).
